Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day
What an influential being who has changed so many lives. I've been reading up about MLK to find out more about him besides the, "I have a dream" speech. I'm embarrassed to admit I didn't know much about him. I am impressed with his views & achievements. What I was most impressed with was his vision and foresight for the future, where we needed/should be. To think this happened in the 60s is amazing to me, and gets me fired up to stand up for what I believe in and be a better part of a great nation.
MLK once said what he wanted people to remember him by, and I think it stands true, even for those (like me) who didn't know much about him in the first place.
"I'd like somebody to mention that day that Martin Luther King Jr. tried to give his life serving others. I'd like for somebody to say that day that Martin Luther King Jr. tried to love somebody.
I want you to say that day that I tried to be right on the war question. I want you to be able to say that day that I did try to feed the hungry. I want you to be able to say that day that I did try in my life to clothe those who were naked. I want you to say on that day that I did try in my life to visit those who were in prison. And I want you to say that I tried to love and serve humanity.
Yes, if you want to say that I was a drum major. Say that I was a drum major for justice. Say that I was a drum major for peace. I was a drum major for righteousness. And all of the other shallow things will not matter."
